Barista Wednesday

Are you ready to have some fun?

Question: What version bible do you most often use at home for everyday reading?

My answer:

This is a good question. In my house I have several different versions. To answer the question I use NIV, but when I cross reference something I use the King James Version. For I want to make sure that the NIV did not take it out of context.

I started with the NIV, but have recently discovered The Passion Translation. I absolutely love it! It speaks with emotion which is my language. Not all of the Bible is available in this translation, but I hope they are working on it.

I like that name of that translation. I have never heard of it, but I will have to look it up. There are so many different translations that are out there. Is the Passion Translation like the Message Bible?

  3. raelynpracht says:

It’s my understanding that it is translated from Aramaic. It’s more like the Voice translation than The Message. Its fairly new. You can find it on BibleGateway and use it to compare passages. It really speaks with heart which I was told is how Aramaic was.

Gotcha, thanks for clearing that up for me. I will surely look into it this weekend.

    Have a bless day!

I like the NIV and trust it. Sometimes I read verses in the New Living Translation (NLT), the ESV, and AMP (Amplified). Blessings Desiray!

Morning Cindy. I too read the NIV. I have the AMP Bible but have not used it much.

Thank you for engaging this morning. Have a bless day.

  7. I use the English Standard Version for everyday. I’ll visit The Message or God’s Word via the Bible app if I’m not understanding. I’ve studied with New King James as well. I have that and NIV as well as New American Standard in actual book form but I read daily from the Bible App. The other night I was missing the feel of the Bible and have started ending my night reading the book itself even just a chapter or two.

  8. desirayl says:

The bible apps are great. To add to what you mention about missing the feel of the bible. For some time now I have been feeling a little guilty about always listening to the bible on my phone.

I ask myself is God even pleased that I listen more to the app then actually picking up the bible it self?

I felt so bad about that I had to have this discussion with my husband to see what was his thoughts on this.

And for some reason even after talking to him I still had that guilt feeling. I know guilt is not of God. Guilt feelings come from the devil.

But what if what I am feeling is conviction? And so what I plan on doing is stop listening to the app . Matter of fact I am going to delete it off my phone.

And see what happens. I love the app because I can listen to up to ten chapters easily. But I how much of it am I retaining? I get more from reading the bible itself.

Just my thoughts. Had you not said what you did I probably wouldn’t even mentioned it but I believe it was for a reason. Maybe others feel the same way.

Thank you for sharing and have a bless day in the Lord.

  9. Maybe this is the confirmation both of us needed!

  10. desirayl says:

    I receive that. Thank you.🙏🙏🙏

  11. NIV Life Application Study Bible for me daily. At times here and there the ESV and NLT. Grew up with KJV. When I was doing my Masters degree, I had to have different versions to study/reference from. That is when I began to prefer the NIV, at that time I had always cross referenced any versions I had used to the KJV to make sure nothing was taken out or added to. ( I made it,, it’s still Wednesday, lol)( still sick my days have been off, lol). Good night blessings my sister. ❤

  12. desirayl says:

Yes Paula it is still Wednesday. I did not know you were still sick. I will contact you today. In the meantime I will say a prayer.

  13. Thank you so much. I replied to your email.

  14. desirayl says:

My favorite version for reading is NKJV. I was raised reading the Old King James Version and so the NKJV feels familiar, but is easier to read. Great question!

  16. desirayl says:
