Watch out for that Jezebel Spirit

1 Kings 16:31 says,He not only considered it trivial to commit the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, but he also married Jezebel daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and began to serve Baal and worship him. He set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal that he built in Samaria

When I was in my twenties and dating, my boyfriend once said to me that I was a Jezebel. To my surprise I was very shocked, my immediate response was, “no I am not an evil person,” I might do and say things that would probably make you think that.

Either way I did not wanted to be associated with that name. You know the saying, sticks and stones may break my back, but words will never hurt? That is a lie, because words do hurt. I could not get that Jezebel out of my head. This caused me to do some searching. I needed to know who is and who was this Jezebel.

I did what any young woman in her twenties would do, I went to my mother. She explained to me who she was and pointed me to the bible to read about her. What I found about her I hated the idea that my boyfriend was right. At first when he said it to me, I shook it off and did not want to believe it. For one he did not even go to church, so how in the world would he even know about a Jezebel? He had to of heard it from someone.

When God showed me in His word who this Jezebel was and the things she did. I was ashamed of myself. I thought to myself, how in the world have I picked up those traits. I was not raised like this. I knew better. One thing was for sure, after I saw the truth in God’s word I had to change. I could no longer be that person.

I stopped being that Jezebel. It did not happen overnight that is for sure. It took time, it took me sitting on the potter’s wheel allowing God to chisel away at the ugly that was there. God got me through it.

And so today I want to share with you who this Jezebel Spirit is. If we only have one of those traits that is too many. We need to get before God and ask Him to deliver us from this spirit. For only God can cleanse us from her.

Jezebel, in the Bible (books of Kings), the wife of King Ahab, who ruled the kingdom of Israel. By interfering with the exclusive worship of the Hebrew God, Yahweh, by disregarding the rights of the common people, and by defying the great prophets Elijah and Elisha, …

  • The Jezebel Spirit seeks to control, influence, and dominate men
  • The Jezebel Spirit is unnatural sense of self importance
  • The Jezebel Spirit requires excessive admiration and attention
  • The Jezebel Spirit falsely accuses men of God and desires to destroy them
  • The Jezebel Spirit lacks self-control and unable to control emotional outburst
  • The Jezebel Spirit manipulative takes advantage of others to achieve her goals
  • The Jezebel Spirit is jealous and envious of anyone who is a threat to her.
  • The Jezebel Spirit is defensive when confronted about her own sin and rebellion
  • The Jezebel Spirit is void of genuine empathy, but will falsely mimic empathy

Have a blessed day everyone!

Wow! You know I have been reading Scriptures for 31 years and I have really never seen Jezebel’s Spirit in this light.

A whole lot of things are clearer now. Thank you.

My brother you are more than welcome. I never saw it in this light either until I searched the scripture. I thank God that that , that young man said that to me other wise I would not of known that about me.

In life we get mad at people for what they say to us, but I always want to be a person that I examine myself before God. For I want Christ to remove any ungodliness from with me. AMEN

  3. Sadly, my generation celebrates the Jezebel spirit. I like that you did some studies on Jezebel. The Word of God corrects, shows us our strengths and weaknesses. I love that God disciplines and changes us through His Word.

Temi, I am grateful that His word changes us. As for this generation we see before us we have to continue to pray for their souls.

Thank you sis. Enjoy the rest of your day.

  5. Thank you! ☺ Have a blessed day.

Well said! We as women must be diligent to allow the Lord to hone our hearts or we can easily fall into this. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for your transparency. Your testimony is beautiful.

Thank you Hope. I have learned to be transparent about my walk with God. Because how can I say how good my God is if I do not tell them how I was before God’s grace cleansed and changed me from inside to out.

I wasn’t always transparent when I was a sinner. I hide a lot of things about myself.

But a change has come over me the day I accepted Salvation. I want everyone to know that Jesus will change a person no matter where they are.

Again thank you for being a part of the discussion. Have a bless day sis.

  8. Very good post Desirayl and an eye opener for sure. Seems that this spirit is the fuel of many aspects of the women’s rights movement and the cause of many social problems. Your transparency is evidence of the indwelling Holy Spirit. Your list of the characteristics of the Jezebel spirit is certainly worth examining in my own life. Thank you!

Bonnie thank you. It is surely a huge problem. I use to wonder had he never said those words to me. Would I still be that Jezebel?

I wish that every woman could see this post. Because if I did not know it was active in me I am sure other women do not know.

    Have a bless weekend Bonnie.😊

Hello Suz, loved your list of the Jezebel spirit. It just goes to show that no matter how sinful we are God is the only One who can change a persons life. And I am so very grateful that He has changed me. He still is working in me but I am NOT what I use to be Praise GOD.

Have a blessed day and weekend.
