Pleasures of this world

Ecclesiastes 2:11 Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind nothing was gained under the sun. The teacher in this chapter tells us that mere pleasure can not give meaning or satisfaction. Join me as I share with you that pleasure will not keep you.

What is this scripture telling us?
The teacher or author of this book is telling us that Vanity of vanities are all vanity! He wants us to understand that through all human achievements are empty and unfulfilling when pursed as ends in themselves. He also shows us that our own wealth, and pleasure in this world even our hard work does not bring us happiness.

Earthly possessions, popularity and great accomplishments do not bring lasting happiness. For true joy is a result of serving God and following His will for our lives.

What is it about us that we look to things within the world and our own means to give us pleasures? Don’t you know that it will only satisfy you for a short time. How many times have you found yourself feeling low and you went out and spent money only later to find out you wish you never would have purchased it.

How many times you set your mind on a goal and then only after receiving it the thrill was no longer there? Do you know why when you go after things or possessions it never last? Even with all your hard work you put into it still don’t give you pleasure like you thought it would.

How to apply to your life?
Remember Pleasure never brings meaning to one’s life. Pleasure is simply meaningless. If you require pleasure then you must find out what God’s plan is for your life. Anything other than what God has for you will not last and you will always find yourself wishing and having no joy or happiness what so ever.

Gleaning

In the bible story of Ruth we can read the her story in Ruth 2:2-23 about the gleaning in the fields. Do you know what “gleaning” is? It is the custom in some districts, after the main crop of grapes has been gathered, to remove the watchman and allow free access to the vineyards for gleaning the last grapes. In other words it was reserved for the poor.

Perhaps you are in the field on your job, in the home out in the community and you see that all the good ones have been plucked up don’t be discouraged because what you don’t see God does see, so often we look at scraps and think that there is no value to it. Today my friend the Lord want you to know that the ones you are gleaning in the field will bring you much success and place you in places you never even dreamed about. Remember my friends God can use a little of what you have and make something great.

When we read about the gleaning in the fields God doesn’t want you or I to get caught up in thinking we too must be in a crop field, that is not what God is revealing, yes the bible says field because back then that is what they did, this word gleaning is for us to look at all the areas of our lives. What areas in your life right now do you need God to speak to? Don’t you need healing? Don’t you need peace? You and I stand in need from God daily, and each day we glean in the fields of our lives. Just like Ruth was blessed you can receive even much more, why? Because Jesus Christ will bless you beyond your dreams.

It’s not about what our bosses see us doing on the job, it’s not about what our friends see us doing, it’s not about what our family sees us doing, it’s what God sees us doing for He is the one who rewards us. AMEN

When did I NOT?

Matthew 25:43 says” I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

It amazes me how the disciples questioned the Lord about” when did I not”? These disciples were constantly around the Messiah everyday, He taught them everything and yet they found themselves still not knowing His heart.

What they miss was the fact that Jesus was not talking about Himself He was talking about their brothers and sisters in need.

And just like they missed the point we miss the point as well, in life people have lots of things going on they are rushing from one thing to the next thing, I use to make excuses for my busyness, but no more…what I have come to learn is that there is more to life than me getting to my next appointment.

On Wednesday me and my husband was out enjoying the day, and the sunshine, as we was crossing the street there was a woman in front of us, who was acting a little weird, I mentioned it to hubby and we stayed behind her to watch her. As we got across the street this woman almost slammed her face into the wall, immediately my husband stopped and asked the woman are you alright. She did not respond, as he was making a diagnosis, I noticed how other people kept walking by and no body else came. While this woman was sitting down and my husband still trying to get a response out of her a younger couple stopped to ask what was wrong, then an older married couple stopped turned out that the older couple just finished talking to their friend who was a doctor and so he yelled for his friend to come back.

When the friend came back the doctor began asking questions and called 911, the doctor said who found her? My husband spoke up and said my wife and I. The doctor said thank you for your kindness, he said that he will stay with her until the emergency team gets here and that we can go.

Every day of our lives I believe God opens doors where we can make a difference. Everything happens for a reason, so don’t be so hasty to ignore the doors and windows just so that you can get to your next appointment.

As I am learning, nothing that I do is that important that the Lord can’t interrupt my agenda even if it takes me out of my way and make me late.

His Love is Always The Same

Often times in life I believe we all come to a place where we must ask ourselves how is our relationship with Jesus Christ? The bible clearly states that a man is to examine his own heart, and yet we don’t always do it, do we?

I am the first to say it’s not easy and the reason it’s not is because no one really want to admit to themselves that they aren’t as close as they thought they are to Jesus. One of the things I love about my husband and that is He is a born again Christian ( and I say that because being married I have seen why God said do not be yoked with an unbeliever). I like the idea that him and I are able to talk about the Word of God and to share our thoughts on certain scriptures.

And so yesterday was one of those days where I had to bounce some thoughts off to him, since my sabbatical and my surgery I’ve been noticing I been feeling a little to relax physically if that is even the right word for it. As far as spiritually I am in great peace. And so when I spoke to my husband about this he mentioned something to me that I never even given thought about. He mentioned to me that sometimes when a person has been on a sabbatical for a period of time the enemy comes in to get you off-balance. Since I was on one and had to have emergency surgery, the enemy tried to come against me. Look at this way, when you are sick your physical body can’t fight, anything that comes your way will weigh on your physically and spiritually and that is what the enemy was trying to do. But he must have forgotten who I belong to, because the Love of Jesus kept me when while I rest.

In our walk with the Lord we all will have questions we wonder if the Lord is pleased with us, we wonder if we are doing His Will and we will at times question our salvation. And so I can say that no matter how much I change God’s Love is always the same. He doesn’t love me any less all because I ask questions, He doesn’t love me less when I doubt, He doesn’t love me less when I go in error. NO! His love is always the same….Oh doesn’t that make you wanna jump up and down? We serve an amazing GOD!
